Got some great reactions on the home made foam stamps and a how to question (hi Jo!)... so I decided to make a few pictures this afternoon when I made me some more cute bird stamps...
So, if you want to know how easy it is to make your own foam stamp... here we go...
1. Trace the design on a piece of vellum, using a pencil... it's the easiest to use a bold design!
2. Use a thin sheet of light colored foam... (here in the Netherlands you can buy it under the name of Crepla, and it comes in many colors, as you can see). Turn the vellum and put in on the foam sheet, then rub firmly with your fingers over the image, so it gets transfered on the foam...
This technique is great to use up all your left over pieces...
3. Cute the transfered image carefully... the better the image is cut, the neater your stamped image will be... use a needle to poke a hole where the eye should be...
4. Cut up an old CD case, so you can mount your foam shape on... just make a good indention with your craft knife, and then bend far enough so the plastic snaps... (you can use chipboard or something like that to mount your stamp, but I like to see where I stamp, so I use clear plastic...)
5. If the plastic has sharp edges, you can use some sandpaper or a file (I used the new Basic Grey precision file set) to make the edges smooth... Now you glue down the foam image with strong craft glue on the plastic mount... (don't reverse the image when you glue it down, because if you stamp the stamped image will be reversed and be exactly as the original!)
6. Because the paws were so small, I didn't cut them out of foam... I drew them on my mount (just as the tiny details on the bird) so I can draw them in stamped image... the wing is cut loose from the image, and glued in place... the lines will show in your stamped image!
That's all! Have fun, and I would love to see what kind of stamps you guys made!
I'll show you a layout made with my stamps soon!
